When it comes to barbecue, the answer is always yes. Do I like it? Yes. Would I like some? Yes. Do I want someone else to pay for it? How did you know, yes. Whatever the question is, the answer is most likely going to be in the form of positive agreement. These same questions came up when I was visiting Portland just a few weeks ago. I knew I wanted to get barbecue but was unsure of where to go. Oddly, I couldn’t get much of a gauge on how the barbecue scene would be surrounding the hotel on my brief visit, but I knew that if I did enough research I’d find something great. Turns out, I found the perfect restaurant when I landed on HarBQ.

I mentioned the food truck to a friend who lives in the area, and she too was excited at the decision. With that, when the chance came we made the drive and happily arrived at its popup location at Von Ebert Brewing. The smell alone was worth the trip; smoke, spice, and the unmistakable (yet hopeful) promise of something good.
After looking over the menu, debating back and forth, and looking over the menu once more we decided on what to get. We ordered a spread that included both classics and creative items: the Chili Dog ($12), Brisket Burger ($15), and Gochujang Pork Belly Burnt Ends ($16 per ½ lb). Each dish came out looking unapologetically indulgent. The chili dog was smoky and rich, the kind you need two napkins for. The brisket burger was tender and juicy, with a crisp sear that gave way to layers of perfectly rendered beef. But the real standout was the gochujang pork belly; sweet, spicy, sticky, and deeply satisfying across each bite. With everything we had it was clear that the food was the kind that encourages you to pause mid-conversation, roll your eyes from enjoyment, and just nod in appreciation.
By the end of the meal, I realized HarBQ isn’t just another barbecue spot, it’s where the heat of Portland flames and smoke balance beautiful Korean flavor. If you find yourself in Portland and you’re looking for something that feels both familiar and fresh, follow the scent of HarBQ and head straight there.
