This was the last breakfast and the final meal during my time at the marketing conference. I’m lucky that I have a job that encourages professional development and in between all the sessions I could squeeze myself into, I managed to get breakfast. The location, Fox and the Hen.
The suggestion came from my coworker as my brain was flooded with marketing, social media and higher education information. Was I hitting my maximum? Yes. Was I in need of food? Double yes. That’s when we ended up sitting on the patio of the restaurant. Menu in hand we scanned page after page until we found the dishes that we couldn’t leave without.
To drink, I ordered a Hot Pistachio Latte ($8). Smooth, warm, and subtly nutty. It was the perfect series of slow sips to start the day and relax after a long week of learning. As the drink began to disappear, it was so cute to see the little surprise friend at the bottom of the mug.
Of course, curiosity got the better of us, so we shared the Animal Style Hash Browns ($7). Golden and crispy beneath a generous layer and smear of toppings, the single has was indulgent and disappeared from the table much faster than expected.
For the actual breakfast, I couldn’t resist the Strawberry Rhubarb French Toast ($16). Two thick slices of brioche held a sweet and thick spread of tart jam, dollops of vanilla cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a sprinkle of roasted pistachios. It was incredibly delicious but didn’t taste like a breakfast item, and that was actually ok. Every bite danced between sweet strawberries and the gentle tartness of the rhubarb. It was rich, slightly weighted, and a great choice. Pairing it with a side of Applewood Bacon ($5) added the perfect savory contrast.
Looking back, Fox and the Hen was a nice restaurant to close out my time in Denver. It wasn’t just because the food was delicious. It was because the meal gave me a chance to slow down before heading back into another busy day of conference sessions and eventually, back home.
Sometimes, the best way to end a trip isn’t with one last attraction. Sometimes, it’s simply with a really good breakfast.
