Fried Chicken Gets Its Own Day at LA Food Bowl’s Night Market

Most people love Friday nights.

It’s the day before the weekend and what comes with that is freedom from many responsibilities. Good bye, boss; peace out driving in traffic; smell ya later inbox full of emails that I wish I could delete! Although Friday leads to a mere two days of so-called release, it’s a day I love and chances are you probably do too. One thing that made this past Friday a great one had nothing to do with work and everything to do with Night Market. The 4-day event hosted by the Los Angeles Times is part of the month-long event in LA Food Bowl.

Previewing Food Bowl in March gave many in media the chance to see what the leading publication would bring for thirty-one days throughout May. There would be parties celebrating restaurants, panel discussions on food and culture, live cooking demonstrations, and Night Market. This year, Night Market runs for five days from Wednesday May 8 to Sunday May 12 at Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles. With free admission into the event, guests can purchase food from various food vendors or get a hold of tickets to VIP areas and themed nights. A VIP lounge hosted by Door Dash where food surrounding the event can be brought to you tableside? That’s a yes for me!

Although I missed the first two days, I was invited to Friday’s Fried Chicken themed night.

Meeting up with friends Johnny, Tin Tin, Arielle, Varissa, and Michelle we spent the evening getting a hold of as much fried chicken as possible. Plates from Phat Birds, The Crack Shack, Lucky Bird LA, and Night + Market were just a few of the stops where we sampled the creative culinary ideas from local restaurants. Each one different from the one before it, but only a couple could be considered a favorite and unforgettable. The restaurant that I loved above all was Lucky Bird (which I discovered thanks to Johnny). Handing out a delicious chicken sandwich (last picture), the restaurant did nothing extraordinary to make a unique sandwich. Instead, they managed to take quality ingredients and serve something that tasted perfect. The softest bun, perfectly fried juicy chicken, and crisp veggies was just right when it came from the Lucky Bird booth.

Dish after dish and a couple of cocktails to follow was a great way to enjoy a Friday evening with wonderful company. I loved spending the night in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles with a variety of restaurants serving up their best fried chicken dishes. If you’re looking for a great way to spend this weekend, do it at Night Market.
