dineL.A.’s Restaurant Week: BOA in Santa Monica

The food paradise known as dineL.A.’s Restaurant Week is in full swing. That means the everyday eaters have their stretchy pants on and food bloggers have their cameras ready in eager anticipation to try out new restaurants. Once my camera battery hit 100% and I put my loose pants on, I set out to try out a restaurant whose menu has long called my name. The first on my list was: BOA Steakhouse in Santa Monica. I’ve wanted to check them out for a while now but the stars never aligned with the opportunity, until yesterday.

The prix fixe lunch menu at BOA had a set of options that showcase the restaurant’s luxurious culinary detail and highlight the taste of extravagant dining. On this lunch visit, the choice order was the Little Gems Salad as an appetizer, Red Wine Braised Short Rib as the entree, and for dessert was the Mini Snickers (all 3 for $25). Despite the size of the salad, it was a satisfying portion. The onions were crisp, the bacon (obviously) delicious, and the vinaigrette was light and tangy. Happiness arrived once the short ribs hit the table. It was truly divine! The meat was so succulent and tender and it easily melted off the bone. It was seasoned so effortlessly and the sauce tasted perfect. It was the type of BBQ sauce that other sauces aspire to be. Gently propping up the rib was a bed of baby potatoes and roasted vegetables. The manager, Josh, stopped by my table and explained that they get their vegetables fresh every day. It was clear I wasn’t eating aged produce. Biting into the potatoes and nibbling on the carrots had the fresh “just plucked from the farm” taste from beginning to end!

Overall, the meal was flawless. The location was surrounded by a beautiful beach setting, they had such an attentive staff, and (allow me to repeat) the meal was wonderful. The dining experience was exactly what I would hope to receive from such an established restaurant. It was so good that I thought once I finished it would have to be my last supper. If so, I would have been satisfied knowing it was the meal that would send me off to heaven.
