I love Elmer’s in Palm Springs.
I visited on my very first trip to Palm Springs, and before the plates were even cleared from the table, I knew this would become a regular stop anytime I found myself back in the city. And just a few weeks ago, I was.
Back in Palm Springs. Back at the host stand. Putting my name down for a table for two and already thinking about what I would order. With the menu in hand, I was ready.
Juan went with something close to his usual: Zenner’s Country Pork Sausage Links & Eggs ($18.99). It’s the kind of breakfast that covers all the bases: scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns, savory sausage links, and a biscuit with butter on the side. Simple, classic and done right. And that’s exactly why Elmer’s works so well.
There’s something to be said about a restaurant that doesn’t overcomplicate things. When people talk about a place that uses quality ingredients and “just gets the simple things right,” this is what they mean. Meals like this one that could easily be overlooked elsewhere become the reason people keep coming back. Watching Juan and many other customers in the restaurant eat, shows that is clear here. Paired with a hot cup of black coffee, his plate was hearty, flavorful, and exactly what he wanted it to be.
I decided to go a different route. I ordered the German Pancake with Strawberry ($20.79) and when it arrived, it immediately made sense why it’s one of their most talked-about dishes. It was massive. Larger than the plate itself, rising up at the edges, golden and slightly crisp on the outside. But despite its size, it wasn’t heavy. Made with eggs, milk, and flour, the texture was light and airy while still being satisfying.
Topped with powdered sugar and sweet strawberries, it felt like the kind of dish that turns breakfast into something a little more fun. A little more memorable. When you pull it apart to take your bites, it feels somewhat whimsical. And I welcome that.

What stands out most about Elmer’s isn’t just one dish, it’s the consistency. It’s the kind of place with a loyal following for a reason. A menu that has something for everyone. Food that’s comforting, filling, and reliably good every time whether you went yesterday or months ago on a previous trip.
And when you find a place like that, you don’t just visit once. You come back, as many times as you can.
