The Mug Shakes Creates the Milkshakes of Your Dreams, Daily

It was just after 1pm on a Saturday morning as I sat outside in the courtyard of Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga. It should have been a day like any other, except on this day I was drawing attention left and right. While I would love to say that it was the looks of handsome men eager to take me on lavish dates, they were looks from parents and their children. Awkward.

“Wow, look at those!” said one woman to her twin boys passing by my table.

the-mug-shakes-1“Daddy that! Daddy, I want that!” shouted a little girl clutching her father’s grip with her left hand and pointing her finger at me with her right hand. For a second I thought, “Did she mean she wanted me? I mean, I’m pretty cool but that’s still a strange request.”

Turns out, they weren’t referring to me, but to the milkshakes I ordered from The Mug Shakes. With so many eyes on me, I decided to move from one table to another. At a different table I was now directly in view of the children’s play area, which meant I was the focus of a corral of children who stared at me as I took photos of my milkshakes. In just a matter of moments the inquisitive stares turned into gluttonous glares and I started to feel like I was in an episode of “The Walking Dead: The Mug Shakes milkshakes” edition.

After a moment I put the camera down to try the shakes and the kids looked at me with envy. Is it weird to say that kids being jealous of me made me feel cool? It is weird? Ok well it’s too late now.

The first shake I tried was the Marvelous Mango ($7.95). A small mason jar was filled with a mango sorbet, topped with a slice of mango and sprinkled with Tajin. Not to be overlooked, the rim of the jar was covered in chocolate. The shake from the first sip was thick and had a nice creamy texture to it. Although the texture was dense, the fruitiness of the mango made it very light for this warm day.

The second shake was the Sour Punch ($6.95). The jellybean shake was a bright blue color with a burgundy river running through it. Along the rim of the cup was a fruit roll up ribbon that held in a dollop of whip cream that was sprinkled with jellybeans. This shake was thinner than the mango and was easier to drink a lot faster. Although you can drink it quickly, be careful, you will get a brain freeze. On top of that the shake was incredibly sweet! From the drink itself to the toppings, it tastes like you’re eating a child’s trick or treat bag all at once. It’s delicious, but it can be overwhelming if you can’t handle that much sweetness. In that case, I’ll take it for you.

the-mug-shakes-4The final shake I devoured in front of the kids was The Grasshopper ($7.95). The mint chocolate shake is one you want to watch as they make it. Not only do they pour the shake in a jar, then top it with a marshmallow in between two brownie pieces that are covered in chocolate syrup. That would be too simple. In addition to that, the rim of the jar is covered in chocolate and sprinkled with peppermint, and then the sandwich is torched! Watching the flame melt the chocolate was like watching my fantasy play on a big screen in slow motion. Once I finished drooling like Homer Simpson, I tried the shake. It was incredibly minty, chocolaty, and once I dove into the brownie-marshmallow stack it was pretty much a meal. It was with this drink that every kid in sight looked to his or her parent demanding one of their own.

Sorry, not sorry.

the-mug-shakes-16My stop at The Mug Shakes was definitely a delicious one! I loved trying their uniquely designed shakes and was so glad to see the variety they could create. Even more, I loved being the center of attention because of them. Sure that may sound a little childish, but regardless of how old you are if you have a Mug Shake milkshake in hand you’ll feel like a kid too.
