Life feels like a rollercoaster right now and at this point, I’m just doing my best to not fall off.
With each new day I’m going along for the ride and not caring much about anything outside of that. I don’t really care how I look and my only concern is that I’m fully clothed and I’ve brushed my teeth before walking out the house. If I’ve done that, then I give myself a star for the day. The same notion applies when it comes to eating. I still get whatever makes me
happy, but I quit being strict about the time of day. Steak in the morning, sure. Cereal for dinner, why not? That lack of discretion may last until the world finds its new normal, but with places like Nighthawk Breakfast Bar in Venice, it actually sounds ideal.
Opening its doors in 2016, the restaurant within the J. Falls Group has taken breakfast and added its own spin on it. Making it something that works well into lunch and dinner, breakfast at Nighthawk isn’t merely pancakes and cereal. Instead, they take your morning favorites and make them bigger, sweeter, and boozier. Looking for an iced coffee to help you get through your day, then order the Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($14). The higher price point than what you would find at your local coffee shop comes from the inclusion of the house spiced rum. The rum blends well with the condensed coconut milk and the topping of coconut whip crème. Smooth, light, and just the right amount of alcohol to help you maneuver through your day in ways that caffeine won’t.
Looking to take your breakfast to the next level, then try a few dishes from the menu.
Candied Bacon Tots ($10) and the Chicken and Biscuits ($18) are great options. A heaping of tater tots falling across your plate with Tapatio-candied bacon and served with their signature Nighthawk sauce is a starter that should always been on your table. What could appear to be ordinary chicken and biscuits has an enhanced taste thanks to the deliciously juicy fried chicken, paired with the aged cheddar and chive biscuits smothered in a maple bacon gravy. The best part is they’re stacked on to each other so the filling taste and flavors comes packed in each bite with little effort on your part.
Even though I (and maybe you) feel like life is a rollercoaster, food may be one of the few joys we can hold on to. Throwing away discretion and leaning into things that bring happiness is all that matters at this point. Whether you’re having breakfast for lunch at Nighthawk or you visit them to enjoy a cocktail with the “top of the morning” feeling, they’re a great choice regardless of the time of day.
