Where to Get the Best Panini in Agoura Hills

I told Sara that I would help her paint the rooms in her new house and although I had agreed, I didn’t think we were actually going to do it. In my head, agreeing to help her paint was like saying I would fill out the census: sure it would be helpful to do it, but I wasn’t really going to do it. After a few days had passed since she originally asked I assumed she had forgotten about her request, I was wrong. Before I knew it I had parked my car on alongside her home in Agoura Hills. What made me follow through on the agreement I had made was partially because I needed to keep my word, but also because she agreed to buy me lunch. Offer me free food and I’ll pretty much build you an entire house.

With that, Sara showed me around the place where she plans to raise her family and live the next years of her life. This is where my invitation was extended as we were going to paint the bedrooms. Do I have experience, painting rooms? No, but as a close friend I lied and attempted to do my best in hopes she wouldn’t notice. Before any brushes hit the wall, we grabbed lunch to get us going. Having already explored her new city a bit, Sara suggested we go to Blue Table in Agoura Hills. The excitement she exhibited when describing the few dishes she had on previous visits made me eager to the point that I felt we couldn’t get there fast enough. A few miles in the car and we pulled into the plaza parking lot where Blue Table was located.

Waking into Blue Table, it felt like the space was clear on who it wanted to be and didn’t shy away from that. It wasn’t trying to be modern or hipster, but simply the purest form of itself. It was quaint, cozy, and casual with an easy going flare. That alone made me relax as I walked throughout the restaurant and its adjoining shop. Seeing the cookbooks, jars of spreads and spices, and cute trinkets within the store made it feel homey and encouraged me to say. Then the food we ordered arrived and at that point we had no plans on leaving.

Sara went with the Italian Sub ($10.99). After visiting Blue Table a few times once she officially got her house, she tried a few things and found a few favorites. With this visit, she chose something different. The sandwich came on a baguette with salami, prosciutto cotto, mortadella, provolone, greens, tomato Dijon aioli, and an Italian sauce. From face value, the sandwich looked absolutely delicious. Perfectly thin slices of meat sat under a handful of greens. Maybe a bit too much as they could have held back on some of it, but if making the sandwich look bigger was their intent then mission accomplished. Watching Sara eat her sandwich I wasn’t inclined to take a bite as I was more interested in my own. But I did want to know how it was and in between chews her response of the sandwich was, “It’s fine.” It seemed like she was content with it quelling her hunger, but that it didn’t get her excited. A good item to try, but not one she fell in love with.

On the other hand, I fell in love with the panini Sara recommended! She told me over and over how much she loved the Ellen’s Special ($9.99) and with her suggestion and description there was nothing else I wanted. The panini had ham, turkey, goat cheese, fig jam, and garlic aioli. The combination of everything was absolutely incredible! I loved the selection of the meat they paired on top of one another and the way the goat cheese was such a smooth addition. I’m such a sucker for goat cheese anyway. However, what brought it all in effortlessly was the fig jam. The sweet and sticky jam against the cheese and aioli was what made me the happiest. The moment I took the last bite and it all disappeared I honestly considered moving to the area for the panini alone.

Blue Table is such a cute restaurant and I am so glad Sara introduced me to the Ellen’s Special. There’s a strong possibility that it’s the best panini in Agoura Hills and if I can’t move here for that, then I have no problem making repeat visits to see Sara and grab the sandwich at the same time. Hopefully no painting will be involved.
